Theyre far from lavish or opulent but theyre luxurious in their details, and life here is anything but difficult  though more than a little bit glamorous, the vibe here is light-hearted and fun. And while some of our favorite hotels use their public spaces to interact with the local scene, the Surfriders roof terrace restaurant and bar is for guests only, in keeping with the intent of the hotel: more a private Malibu beach house than a typical boutique hotel. Its a refuge, but not an isolated one  the views of the pier, the Pacific, and one of Californias most famous beaches lend it an unmistakable sense of place.
